About

Has your child's progress at the piano stalled? A practice coach makes practice time productive. Which makes confident kids and proud parents.

Hi! My name is Beau Niebergall and I started piano practice coach.

When I was a child learning piano I lacked discipline and would often fail to practice regularly.   Also I didn’t want to practice in the hours after my lesson,   so I forgot much of what I learned.   Neither of my parents were musically literate and once I made progress past the introductory levels,   they weren’t able to give meaningful feedback about my practice sessions.   Because of this,   my advancement was slow and I didn’t make substantial progress until I was in my teens.   That was a long time ago.   I’ve been teaching music now for over 20 years.

I was working as a teacher at Showcase Pianos in Vancouver when they started offering an outstanding value to their students: practice coaches.   A practice coach didn’t replace the teacher,   but coached the student’s practice routine.   The practice coaches would meet with the students at the piano studio once a day to help them practice what the teacher had assigned.   The moment I heard about practice coaches I realized this would have given me the discipline and feedback I needed all those years ago.

The students at showcase who had a practice coach were able to make extremely fast advancement.   Not only were they able to move through the assigned material at a faster rate but did so with better execution and musicianship.   They saw greater meaning and purpose to their lessons and experienced less frustration.

Right away I wanted to share this advantage in the most practical way for my students:   coaching in the convenience of your own home.   So I built this website with a video-conference capability and a framework for how the practice sessions would be conducted.   Now, it makes me so happy to see students enjoying music and making progress with the assistance of helpful and talented coaches.
